Blockchain-based payment platform Metal Pay has acquired the EOSIO platform Block.io.
On August 21, Metal Pay's CEO announced to Cointelegraph that the company had signed the deal to acquire the platform. The final transaction amount was not disclosed.
Originally launched as a simple block explorer for EOS, Bloks.io has expanded into a multipurpose EOSIO platform that supports a variety of networks such as WAX, Telos and Proton. According to Metal Pay, Bloks.io has around 10,000 active daily visitors.
Metal Pay said it will work with the Bloks.io developers led by former Ethereum developer Syedd Jafri. Metal Pay is also aiming to expand across the industry using a cryptocurrency and blockchain called Proton (XPR). Proton is a public blockchain and smart contract platform launched in April 2020, targeting the consumer market and peer-to-peer (P2P) payment platforms.
Metal Pay previously acquired the blockchain project Lynx (LYNX) this past May as well.
Besides Bloks.io, other EOS blockchain explorers include Eosx.io, Eospark.com and Eosflare.io. These platforms track blocks and transactions on the EOSIO blockchain and operate in a decentralized way through EOS, the network's native cryptocurrency.
When it launched in 2018, EOS had the largest market capitalization of any cryptocurrency, and it currently ranks 11th with a market cap of $3.4 billion.
