[Bitpunk] Steemit, the Symbol of Decentralized Social Media, Censors a User?

1 min read · · Korean original

Hello, this is Bitpunk. News is spreading that Steemit, the symbol of decentralized social media, has censored a user. Steemit is well known in Korea, too, as "the platform that rewards you for writing."

This incident involves the expulsion from steemit.com of a person running an account called @thedarkoverlord. Some say the incident has cost Steemit their trust. Others argue that Steemit, unlike Steem, is just a platform run by a company, and that Steem itself is still a decentralized, distributed network that no one can control.

It happened because this Dark Overlord said they would sell confidential(?) documents related to the 9/11 attacks in exchange for cryptocurrency. The documents include not only 9/11 material but also secret files from other private companies. They even posted some sort of sample files on the Steemit site, but I was too scared to actually download them. If you're curious, you can check them out through the third-party app Busy. (The post has currently been deleted from steemit.com.)

If you'd like more details, you can find them in the video! Thank you.
