What is the Ethereum Shanghai upgrade? The key point is that staked Ethereum and its rewards can now be withdrawn freely. This should unlock more liquidity and is expected to bring more participants into Ethereum staking.

Key Points of the Ethereum Shanghai Upgrade
After the consensus mechanism changed with the Ethereum Merge (The Merge) upgrade, this Shanghai upgrade makes it possible to withdraw staked ETH and rewards.
The State of Ethereum Staking
More than 520,000 validators are currently taking part in Ethereum staking. About 16.5 million ETH is staked. Most of the staked ETH is locked up in Lido and solo staking.

Until now, staking participants have secured liquidity through 1:1 pegged tokens such as stETH and bETH. 57% of all staked ETH existed in liquid form. With this Shanghai upgrade, solo stakers and SaaS stakers will also be able to access liquidity.
Meanwhile, Ethereum's staking ratio is relatively low compared to other chains (BNB, Cardano, etc.). As liquidity becomes easier to access, more stakers are likely to join.
The Shanghai Upgrade and Ethereum's Outlook
Ethereum is a layer 1 solution with an excellent ecosystem. However, competitors such as BNB, Tron, Arbitrum, and Polygon are threatening its position. In fact, Ethereum's DeFi market share has fallen from a peak of 96% to 60%.

The Ethereum ecosystem is likely to become somewhat more active after the Shanghai upgrade, but it seems unlikely to regain the near-total dominance it once had.
That said, Ethereum has entered a deflationary state since the Merge upgrade. If the current trend continues, the supply of ETH will shrink going forward.
You can take part in staking by acquiring 32 ETH, an amount that is high but not out of reach. This lets you earn validator rewards directly, and you can also look forward to capital gains as the price of Ethereum rises over the long term.
