Hello, this is Bitpunk. In this post, we'll break down the spot and futures trading fees on the Bybit exchange.

Bybit charges different fees for maker and taker trades, and the higher your VIP tier, the bigger the fee discount you can get.

Bybit Exchange Fees at a Glance

1. Spot Trading Fees

For regular users, Bybit's spot trading fee is the same 0.1% for both takers (market orders) and makers (limit orders).

VIPs get additional discounts. For example, to reach VIP 1, you need to hold a balance of $100,000 or more, or reach a 30-day trading volume of $1 million or more. At VIP level 1, you get a fee discount of 20% on taker fees and 32.5% on maker fees compared to regular users.

What is the Pro tier? If you look closely at the table, you'll see Pro tiers in addition to the VIP tiers. These are a separate set of tiers for people who trade via API. Regular users can simply refer to the rows from VIP 0 through Supreme VIP.

2. Futures Trading Fees

Futures trading comes with lower fees than spot trading. The base fees are 0.055% for takers and 0.02% for makers.

However, please keep in mind that when trading futures, your fees increase along with the leverage you use and the position you open. (For example, with 20x leverage, the fee is also 20x, in proportion to the position size.)

How Are VIP Tiers Determined?

You move up a Bybit VIP tier when you meet either of the following two conditions. You only need to reach either the asset threshold or the trading volume threshold to raise your VIP level.

  • Asset balance: the total of the assets held in your account
  • 30-day trading volume: the sum of your trading volume over the last 30 days
VIP Tier Asset Balance (USD) 30-Day Trading Volume (USD)
VIP 0 ≥ 0 ≤ 1M
VIP 1 ≥ 100K ≥ 1M
VIP 2 ≥ 250K ≥ 5M
VIP 3 ≥ 500K ≥ 10M
VIP 4 ≥ 1M ≥ 25M
VIP 5 ≥ 2M ≥ 50M
Supreme VIP N/A ≥ 100M

How Are Pro Tiers Determined?

Bybit runs Pro tiers for users who do a large share of their trading via API. You can apply for a Pro tier when your API trading volume is 20% or more of your total trading volume, and your level is determined solely by your 30-day trading volume, regardless of your assets.

Pro Tier API Trading Share 30-Day Trading Volume (USD)
Pro 1 > 20% ≥ 25M
Pro 2 > 20% ≥ 50M
Pro 3 > 20% ≥ 100M
Pro 4 > 20% ≥ 200M
Pro 5 > 20% ≥ 500M
Pro 6 > 20% ≥ 1,000M

How Can You Get a Discount on Bybit Fees?

The most basic way to get a fee discount on Bybit is to trade as a maker rather than a taker. To have your trade filled as a maker, you can place your order below the current price on the order book so that it rests in the order book, or you can turn on the Post Only order condition.

Alternatively, as shown in the tables above, you can reach a higher Bybit VIP tier. VIP levels are recalculated every day, and they are updated and applied automatically at 4 PM Korea time.

Lastly, you can use a referral code when you sign up for Bybit. If you enter a special referral invite code, you can get a 20% fee discount and payback on both spot and futures trading.

Wrapping Up

That covers Bybit's spot and futures trading fees in detail. To sum up the key points: for regular users, the spot trading fee is 0.1% for both makers and takers. The futures trading fee is 0.02% for makers and 0.055% for takers.

Fees on the Bybit exchange vary depending on your tier. Reaching a VIP or Pro tier not only lets you cut your trading fees significantly, but also gives you extra perks in events such as Launchpool and IDOs.
