Binance has launched a new yield-generating product called BFUSD. You might be thinking, "Huh? Isn't that just a stablecoin?" But there's a clear difference!
In this post, we'll take a detailed look at what BFUSD is, how much it earns, how it works, and what its benefits and risks are.

What Is BFUSD?
- BFUSD is a parking-style yield product created by Binance.
- Just by holding a balance, you can receive daily rewards in USDT stablecoin.
- It generates yield using funding rates and staking strategies, and it can also be used as USDⓈ-M futures margin when trading futures.
- You can redeem it for USDT at a 1:1 ratio whenever you want.
In short, BFUSD can be described as a kind of parking-style product whose value is pegged to a stablecoin. Users buy the BFUSD product, and the Binance exchange uses those funds to generate additional yield, which it then shares with them.

How Do You Earn BFUSD Rewards?
To earn rewards with BFUSD, you first need to buy BFUSD with USDT. Here's how to buy BFUSD.

- Log in to your Binance account.
- From the top menu, go to Futures [Futures] → the [BFUSD] tab.
- Buy BFUSD with USDT and you're done. Rewards are paid out automatically every day.
- If you want to redeem, you can do so in the [Redeem] tab, as shown below.

What Are the Advantages and Benefits of BFUSD?
1. Use It as Margin in Multi-Assets Mode
BFUSD supports Multi-Assets Mode. Multi-Assets Mode is a feature that combines multiple assets within one account (spot, funding account, etc.) and uses them together as margin. In other words, you can use BFUSD in your futures account as collateral, just like USDT.
This lets you generate yield from idle stable assets, which improves capital efficiency. On the flip side, though, if you incur losses, you could lose your entire account balance, including your BFUSD, so don't forget that risk management is essential.
2. Differentiated Reward Rates

- Base reward rate: Simply holding BFUSD earns you an annual yield of 8–15%.
- Boosted reward rate: If you trade futures on Binance, your annual yield goes up to 12–18%.
Binance decided to merge the base and boosted rewards starting February 27, 2025. As a result, the same top rate is now automatically applied to BFUSD holders, even without any separate futures trading.
3. Steady Yield Generation
Binance uses the following funding rate and staking strategies to generate yield for BFUSD.
- It enters the futures market with the assets used to buy BFUSD and earns yield from funding rates.
- It buys coins such as Ethereum and earns yield from staking rewards.

Is BFUSD Really Safe?
But is a high-yield stablecoin product like this actually safe? In fact, Luna's USTC also offered around 20% APY per year before it collapsed. The problem back then was that Luna ran an algorithmic stablecoin backed by $LUNA, a coin whose value could swing dramatically.
Fortunately, to address this kind of problem, BFUSD uses a reserve fund and a delta-neutral strategy, as described below. This is quite similar to the approach used by another comparable project, Ethena (ETHNA).
1. BFUSD Has a Separate Reserve Fund
Binance operates a separate reserve fund to protect BFUSD holders. The initial reserve is USD 1 million, and more assets are added over time from yield. So, as long as nothing goes wrong with the Binance exchange itself, the value of users' BFUSD is protected by the reserve assets.
2. Using a Delta-Neutral Strategy
A delta-neutral strategy means taking opposite positions in spot and futures to minimize the risk of price volatility. For example, when 3,000 BFUSD is issued, Binance buys USD 3,000 worth of Ethereum on the spot market and opens a short position in futures to offset market volatility. This way, it can collect funding fees while keeping the asset value steady.
BFUSD Risks and Things to Watch Out For
As we saw earlier, unless something goes wrong with Binance, the chance of BFUSD itself collapsing doesn't seem high. Even so, the following risks exist.
- Limits on reward payouts
- If funding rates turn positive (+), yield may drop and reward payouts could be temporarily suspended.
- However, Binance states that rewards will never go negative (-).
- Redemption limits
- If a large volume of redemption requests comes in, redemptions may be restricted for up to 7 days.
- In that case, Binance adjusts its hedging portfolio to process the requests.
- Redemption fees
- Fees for buying and redeeming BFUSD may vary depending on market conditions.
- As of December 2024, there's no fee when buying, but when redeeming, a fee roughly equal to about 3–5 days' worth of yield is deducted.
BFUSD FAQ
Q: When are rewards paid out?
They're paid out automatically every day between 2 PM and 3 PM Korea time. Rewards are credited directly to your futures account.
Q: I heard the limit depends on your VIP level?
- Yes, that's right. BFUSD holding limits are set by VIP level, from VIP 0 to 9. Regular users can buy up to 100,000 BFUSD, while VIP9 users can buy up to 2,000,000 BFUSD.
Q: What should I do if redemptions are restricted?
Just wait until the BFUSD redemption restriction is lifted, then submit your redemption request again.
Wrapping Up
BFUSD is Binance's yield product, a parking-style product that pays yield by using funding rates in the futures market and staking. Binance is the world's No. 1 exchange and offers deep liquidity and strong security.
However, as with any financial product, don't forget that it's important to fully understand the inherent risks and invest carefully.
